SONIC MUD: Ugav Nights

Visual artist Julia Elsas has reimagined the mysterious biblical instrument, the Ugav, through a series of ceramic sculptures. Julia's sonic sculptures will be performed live by Kenny Wollesen, Rich Stein, Mike Irwin, Sae Hashimoto and friends.

Julia Elsas is part of the inaugural cohort of the New Jewish Culture Fellowship of Brooklyn Jews, sponsored by UJA-Federation of NY.

Julia was born in Birmingham, Alabama and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Her current work encompasses printmaking, textiles, sculpture, ceramics, papermaking, installation, and performance. Julia teaches printmaking and book arts at both Montclair State University and the Lower East Side Print Shop, and she teaches ceramics at New Jersey City University. Julia is also the owner and designer of RE/PRESS Editions, a line of handmade jewelry and functional ceramic goods.
